GOP lawmaker threatens to go nuclear if 'anarchist' MTG's bid to oust Johnson succeeds

Republicans in the House of Representatives have long expressed frustration with the antics of lawmakers such as Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), but have rarely done something concrete to stop them.

However, an anonymous House Republican tells Axios' Juliegrace Brufke that they may at last reach their breaking point should Greene's bid to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) succeed.

"Some of us are saying if the Speaker is vacated, which would be a travesty... that we’ll nominate Steve Womack and cut the anarchists out all together," the GOP lawmaker said.

Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) is a House Republican who has been one of the staunchest supporters of Ukraine in its attempts to repel Russia's two-year-old invasion, and electing him as speaker would certainly isolate critics of aid to the war-torn nation such as Greene, who has falsely claimed that the country is waging a war against Christianity itself.

Gerrymandering has led directly to this. As districts became less and less competitive, they tended to attract the fringe. Obviously, the fringe is a gigantic problem on the other side.

this person must remain anonymous for fear they will have something done to them.

If republicans ran this country in WWII we'd all be speaking German right now.

... is a seething furnace of malice. She destroys everything she touches. She is unspeakably evil and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. NONE.
She, and the rest of the demented howler monkeys in the far right “Freedom Caucus”, have zero interest in governing, and are too dirt stupid to accomplish anything even if they were so inclined, which they are not, and never will be.
They cannot comprehend that governing is the art of compromise, which they adamantly refuse to do under any circumstances. None of them will even say the word, “compromise”, steadfast in their diseased belief that “gittin’ over on them libs” is the only reason for being in Congress in the first place. So nothing of value will ever come out of a Republican-led House of Representatives. And tax breaks for billionaires don’t count.
The bottomless cesspool of depravity that spawned the likes of Greene, and every other conservative fouling the planet, demands mindless adherence to authoritarian edicts, the best interests of their constituents be damned.
They are not good people, and have no intention of ever doing anything good for anyone but themselves, the oligarchs whose bribes fund their campaigns, and the Orange Caligula for whom they don their knee pads daily.
Conservatism has NEVER done anything good for ordinary working folks, and it never will.

A "war on Christianity" being waged by Ukraine?
According to thus, 80% of Ukrainians identify as Christian. EIGHTY PERCENT!

Never in my life have I been admonished for celebrating Christmas, nor have I ever seen anyone else attacked for it.

You can't get away from Christmas in the US because it is so prevalent here. The stores, the entertainment, the decorations, the celebrations. Christmas Day is even a Federal Holiday. Holiday retail sales increase every year.

If America is waging a war against Christmas than they are losing badly. "Never fight uphill, me boys!"

I doubt most Representatives could identify him in a line-up.

However, he is less at least slightly radical than Johnson. More importantly, he supports support for Ukraine.

Given the choice, I'd take Womack over Johnson every time.

Nuclear would be organizing a decent block of at least 25 Republicans to vote for speaker Jefferies, with a firm commitment to support him against motions to vacate until after the next election.

This is just more of the exact same malarkey that Republicans have been doing for years.
