Trump jail time ideas:

1. The judge could order jail time but delay it until the trial is finished.
And make the total amount of time served dependent upon Trump's behavior
between now and the end of the trial. Let that hang over Trump's head.

2. Put Trump in jail now for just a few hours for each violation.
When Trump whines about spending two hours in jail he will look like a baby.
And antagonize his J6 cult criminals who are spending more time in jail.

To quote Mango Mussolini on the topic of women obtaining abortions: There must be some form of punishment. Well, that’s my sentiment toward his threats against jurors, the judge’s family, etc. Even if it’s only brief stints in the pokey, he’ll perceive it as hell and come off looking like a big baby.

This is a judge who is efficient and goes at a clip in terms of timing.

He is hell bent on keeping the momentum going.

He wants zero unnecessary delays.

That is why I am thinking he will go with delaying jail until the end of the trial.
But let Trump know so it hangs over his head and maybe Trump will behave.

And as long as the judge goes with tiny baby steps, the appeal court with be OK with it?

People are delivered back and forth between lock-up and court all the time. Besides, I’d be surprised if Trump were locked up more than one day.

I sure hope the judge doesn’t try something like just an hour or two. Even ever-whiny Trump can manage that, and would get all the martyr glory he wants without suffering anywhere near enough to learn a lesson.

A full day or two, however? Trump would probably be badly shaken by that. I don’t think he has the coping skills to shrug that off.

Trump's attorney jumping on this and filing additional motions and appeals which take up the judge's time.

Trump acting out even more, prosecutors filing more contempt motions.

All of this sidetracking the judge.

This judge is very focused, has his eye on the ball.
He doesn't want to go off on tangents.

But measured and incremental.

The judge won't just throw Trump in jail and toss away the key.

And he won't threaten jail time if he doesn't mean it.

He will do something in small careful steps.

That is my read of this judge.

There’s not anything left of “small careful steps” other than jail time that doesn’t send the message that the gag order is meaningless.

My point is that there’s nothing “careful” about a next step so very small that Trump gets a martyrdom talking point but no significant cause for regretting his actions. An hour in jail won’t cut it. The next step should at the very least be an overnight stay.

Thu May 2, 2024, 08:41 AM

Either now or when he’s convicted - only not his house. House arrest in Mar A Lago wouldn’t be punishment, it would be vacation.

The court should buy or rent a small house (2 or 3 bedrooms)in a secluded area ( West Virginia, Wyoming, New Mexico) with no TV and no phone. That would be enough room for Trump and his Secret Service detail to protect him. They could come and go in shifts and bring his necessities such as groceries and medicine and doctors if he needs them. All paid for by Trump.

Thu May 2, 2024, 08:44 AM

It’s not. For contempt or as sentence for crimes, it is not. Plenty of places both state and federal where he can be locked up and isolated. In fact, keeping him in one place, behind walls and bars, makes Secret Service’s job easier. If he still has SS protection. That to be decided later.

Another violation and he is put on ankle monitor.

He can go to court, home, lawyer's office, and Barron's graduation. He must stay within the state of NY metro area except when given permission by the judge.

Merchan can give him permission to stay in tRump tower or Bedminster (allow him to go to NJ). If he wants to campaign from there, he is welcome to.

I think the judges are afraid of those optics.
And motions to appeal on these grounds.

So I don't think the judge will interfere with Trump's off time.

More likely to restrict Trump during courtroom hours.

Or overnight.

42. Ankle monitor isn't the right punishment for him.
Thu May 2, 2024, 12:03 PM
May 2

First of all, the intention of an ankle monitor is to confine someone to movement within a very small area, and that isn't possible as long as he's campaigning nationally. Don't give him that ammo to whine about.

Second, ankle monitors are for people who are flight risks, and, contrary to what many silly people think, he isn't one. Even that gormless git knows that running would cost him the election, so he's not going anywhere until at least November.

I doubt the judge will go there.

However, it is possible to lock him up on the evenings prior to Tuesday and Friday court appearances (Monday and Thursday evenings). That would be a suitable substitute for weekend confinement. Bonus: He wouldn't be able to communicate with the media during prime coverage days as well.

Really bad prison time... Nazi war criminal... from advisor to liability

Nazi war criminal Alois Brunner died in Syria basement in 2001 - report

Nazi war criminal Alois Brunner 'died in Syria squalor'

One of his guards said Brunner, who went by the name of Abu Hussein, “suffered and cried a lot in his final years, everyone heard him.”

The man, identified only as Omar, said he “couldn’t even wash.”

All he had to eat were “army rations - awful stuff - and an egg or a potato. He had to choose one or the other.”

(He was a 'consultant' to various torture regimes but when he became a political embarrassment/liability, his retirement plan was really bad)
