Student protests are covered by the 1st amendment.
Avoid the destruction and violence kids.
Otherwise bravo and eff the MIC too.
Great to see young progressives waking up again. Enough of the neo-liberalism, fascism , racism, misogyny and slaughter in Gaza and elsewhere.
I can die now - were in good hands. This planet has moved way too far to the right.
Many of the ReTHUG hypocrites condemning you were fine with their failed coup. Some enabled it.
Wake up everybody- I remember singing this one way back when.
The world wont get much better if we just let it be .

(4,113 posts)Once upon a time I was arrested for peace. Bu$h & cHeney era.
For tress-passing in my congressman's office. We weren't leaving
until we knew 'what the noble cause was' why we were decimating Iraq.
We brought lunch boxes full of snacks and sandwiches and lasted 8
hours before the police hauled us to jail.
Turns out we were right about that war.
That congressman hosted us in his office a few weeks later.
It's important when there are runaway actions that need to be re-assessed and corrected
to show peaceful solidarity-
But during Occupy- having the elites give you corralled areas where everyone can walk
by you and not give it another thought? Getting a permit for marches on a special day at
a special time so not to upset others regular routines? What good is a first amendment right when
your ignored by the elites who control the immoral actions, who can slip out of town with notice.

(10,221 posts)After which, they would have executed them for treason against England! The members of the Boston Tea Party caused a lot of monetary damage by dumping tea in the harbor, but their actions got the attention of the government in England. Our country was literally founded on protests, and the Founders wisely protected protests with the First Amendment. Most of these protests were peaceful until the police and National Guard arrived with all the riot gear and guns they could carry. Yes, they have been some agitators, but shutting down the right to protest is wrong.

(92,584 posts)made it clear this is beyond free speech and has become an illegal assembly.
Once violence has started between various groups involved, the line has been crossed.
The police and protesters are being very reserved in their use of force so far, and for those thinking this is helping the cause that is being protested,
At least three-quarters of Americans consider it to be always or usually acceptable to protest by create a petition (87%), call your representative (85%), hand out flyers (85%), chant or sing (82%), boycott products (80%), march for long distances (79%), or wear symbolic clothing or accessories (78%).
However,
Tactics that involve more direct or invasive action including blocking traffic (12%), disrupting public events (21%), and occupying spaces or buildings (36%) are less likely to be considered acceptable. Intentionally destructive actions rioting (9%), defacing property (9%), and burning the American flag (17%) are among the least accepted protest actions.

(92,584 posts)A documentary about the rape and sexual crimes committed by Hamas terrorists on and after the October 7 massacre has been published online to watch for free.
The film, entitled Screams Before Silence and featuring eye-witness testimonies from survivors, accounts from first responders, and interrogation footage of members of Hamas, provides considerable evidence for a campaign of systematic rape by the terror group during its devastating assault on southern Israel six months ago.
The documentary is fronted by former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg who in the film returns to kibbutzim that were targeted on October 7 with former residents to hear in heart-wrenching detail what happened to them that morning.
Sandberg also travels to the site of the Nova music festival massacre, which is now scattered with hundreds of newly planted trees, Israeli flags, and the pictures of all those murdered.

(9,612 posts)I mean what I say: not a single campus protest against hamas unspeakable violence. Did I not make this pellucidly clear? I mean the Israelis in their SOVEREIGN homeland.
Not a single campus protest. Very much unlike the Palestinians, dead or alive, whether they were the perpetrators of heinous crimes against humanity or not. College campuses are full of war crime apologists.
And spare me the apartheid and genocide nonsense. It is insulting to the actual victims of apartheid and genocide.

One side in this horrific mess has been the victim of a disproportionate response.
Beastly Boy
(9,612 posts)And it certainly does not reflect in assigning the blame for the horrific mess where it belongs.
Does it ever occur to you that you are laser focused on the response, however disproportionate it may have been, and are completely neglecting to mention the original cause that prompted the response? The cause without which there would be no response, disproportionate or otherwise?
It appears that you worry more about reactions than actions.
I have a lot to say about the malicious and incompetent right wing government in Israel. But I will not say it in the furthering of biased one-sided or manipulative narratives.

(19 posts)when anyone justifies Hamas' terror against Jews and the RAPE of JEWISH WOMEN as intifada, every Jew understands what's next...undermensch...the dehumanizing of Jews so that their murder and cleansing is justified and palatable...not hard to condemn Hamas and still understand Netanyahu is poisonous to Israel..its only hard if Zionism is the next blood libel following the thousand years effort to wipe out an entire people....

Oh, just a deflection. Never mind.

(4,731 posts)Im behind, and proud of, all peaceful protests. Legal or illegal. Direct action is not guided by legality; it is determined by a strong inner reaction to immorality and injustice. When has organized response ever been determined by the legal system, a structure designed by and for status quo authority? Obedience and inaction, perpetuated by authority laden restrictions and dictated by the big fucking club which well never be asked to join, wishes to mandate control over everything. Fuck that!
Power to the People.

"WE don't want no two state, we want '48". I do not consider this progressive; it's sad we cannot find common ground.
