I don't trust (R) to properly characterize (D) or progressive (when there's a difference) views and positions. But since I drink from a number of wells, I know both positions and can see the difference. Similarly, in the '70s and '80s I read Soviet and American sources and saw where they agreed (those were "facts&quot and where they disagreed (in which I required additional sources or critical thinking or, usually, both).

Note I didn't trust those that one supported to tell the unbiased truth, because nobody's truly unbiased and without being very aware of your biases and fighting them every chance you get there's no way to even approach veridicality, I didn't trust those the other side supported for all the same reasons.

Foes seldom tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. These days, they tell "their truth and nothing but *their* truth." "My truth" celebrates my biases. I like science.
