Welcome back to the Top 10 Conservative Idiots! Yoooooooooooooooooooooo!!! What’s up Tallahasee, how you guys doing? You doing fucking good? Great! You know that we were supposed to come here last year but we got shut down because of the hurricane. Yeah we were literally told by FEMA that we couldn’t host our event so there was that. So we had to scramble for a host venue at the last minute and went to Arizona. But hey it’s our first time in the Florida Panhandle, so how about that? Well anyway, can you believe that we’ve got just 3 more Top 10s before we wrap up the season? Holy crap does time fly, doesn’t it? Yeah and we’re definitely going out with a bang for the first half of the year and we’ve got an amazing musical guest lined up for the finale. I’ll give you a hint: it rhymes with Schmeen Schmay. Oh yes they’re going to be on our fine program! Do we have time for the thing? Of course we do. You know it’s music festival season and it’s well underway. We had Coachella. We had Coachella’s country music cousin Stagecoach. There was Sick New World in Las Vegas. Of which one band from that festival in particular has been getting some press if you will, for of course saying something stupid on social media, which you should never ever do in this day and age. That band is the popular UK metalcore outfit Bring Me The Horizon. And they’re getting endless amounts of shit for… *checks notes* quoting their own lyrics. But come on, really, it’s the poster for their show in Australia that sells the outrage. Can we show that? And of course it totally split the fans right down the middle. The comment section is really something else, it’s like every online debate you’ve ever seen. Yeah just like that! I’m sure that’s in there somewhere! In the number one slot this week, it has to go to the MAGA SCOTUS (1) and their decision to take up the Trump presidential immunity case, and it seems like the right wing just keeps moving back the goal posts. No, assholes, we don’t want to live under a fascist dictatorship, do you get that??? In the second slot this week is the State Of New York (2). Wait, what? Isn’t New York supposed to be a blue state? Yes they are, but we are not going to get away with the insane decision to let Harvey Weinstein off the hook. Hell no, they aren’t going to get away with that! In the number 3 slot this week is the Arizona fake electors (3). Yes, this might be one of the greatest pieces of news we’ve heard in a while – nearly *ALL* of the electors in that scam to overturn the 2020 presidential election got indicted last week. You heard me, *ALL* of them! Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! In the number four slot this week is South Dakota governor Kristi Noem (4). Seriously, of all the things you could admit to, why in the hell would you admit to murdering your dog after a bad hunting trip? I just can’t fathom the absolute monster you’d have to be to do something like that. Sigh… just WTF. Taking the 5th slot this week is a new We’re All Gonna Die (5) and look, I want to stress that we’re not making fun of anyone dying here, but is your Tesla Autopilot killing you? A series of accidents across the country might suggest yes, and we suspect Death By Elon might be a thing in the future! In the number 6 slot this week is of course our weekly visit to the Holy Church Of The Top 10 in “Holy Shit” (6) and this week, if you think we’re talking about the unprecedented rise of Christian nationalism and white supremacy in the United States, you’re wrong. In fact we’re not talking about it enough. There’s a new documentary called “Bad Faith” that looks to blow the roof off the subject, and let’s just say it’s the Jesus Camp for 2024 that we very badly need! Since the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the right wing cementing a solid 6 – 3 hard conservative majority on the highest court in the land, they’ve managed to almost single-handedly destroy the court’s credibility overnight. It’s no secret that since the 2016 election, and Vladimir Putin revealing himself as the world’s prime evil, that the right wing has opened up to the idea of cozying up to dictators and fascist authoritarians around the world. It’s like the bad guy in an action movie revealing his master plan before the final battle. Well, one case coming up could not just destroy the Supreme Court’s credibility once and for all, but it could be the catalyst for cementing a fascist dictatorship in the United States. The case is called Trump V. United States. Yeah imagine the sheer balls it takes to show that you’re suing the entire country with the name of your case. Fuck him. So the question is – which way is the court going to rule on this case? It’s almost certain that they’re going to rule in favor of the Orange Turdblossom, but there’s far more to this case than meets the eye.

The Supreme Court has scheduled a special session to hear arguments over whether former President Donald Trump can be prosecuted over his efforts to undo his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden.

The case, to be argued Thursday, stems from Trump’s attempts to have charges against him dismissed. Lower courts have found he cannot claim immunity for actions that, prosecutors say, illegally sought to interfere with the election results.

The Republican ex-president has been charged in federal court in Washington with conspiring to overturn the 2020 election, one of four criminal cases he is facing. A trial has begun in New York over hush money payments to a porn star to cover up an alleged sexual encounter.

The Supreme Court is moving faster than usual in taking up the case, though not as quickly as special counsel Jack Smith wanted, raising questions about whether there will be time to hold a trial before the November election, if the justices agree with lower courts that Trump can be prosecuted.

Last week, the Department of Justice and Trump’s lawyers argued over presidential immunity at the Supreme Court in a case that could make or break special counsel Jack Smith’s federal election interference indictment. And after nearly three hours of oral arguments, a majority of justices seemed poised to give the former president a hugely consequential win.

John Sauer, Trump’s attorney, argued the “presidency as we know it” would be over if presidents were not granted immunity from criminal charges, claiming that vindictive prosecutors would target them for any controversial decisions made in office as soon as they leave it. He also reiterated an argument that Trump’s legal team has used to push back against all of his criminal indictments: Congress must impeach and convict Trump before he can be criminally prosecuted. Meanwhile, Michael Dreeben, a lawyer representing Smith’s office, emphasized that the Supreme Court has never recognized absolute presidential immunity and that the Constitution already has multiple checks to prevent vindictive prosecution of a former chief executive.

The justices ultimately focused on whether a president’s “official acts” could be criminally prosecuted—and if so, what distinguishes “official” acts from “private” ones. Justice Brett Kavanaugh (a Trump appointee) suggested that prosecutors could only charge a former president under criminal statutes that explicitly state they can be applied to presidents, which justice Sonia Sotomayor quickly pushed back on. “If we say a president can’t be included in a criminal law unless explicitly named, then that would bar the Senate from convicting him for high crimes or misdemeanors,” she argued. “Because that means that [Trump] is not subject to the law at all.” (As Sotomayor also pointed out, there are only a tiny handful of criminal statutes today that explicitly name the president.)

It’s absolutely insane that we’ve got to this point. But I’ll tell you how we got here – the right has 50 years of unchecked propaganda at their disposal. What’s resulted is a party that is absolutely drunk with power and completely out of control, and they’re dragging America down to their level. They’re guided by news networks and think tanks like the Heritage Foundation that have installed their lackeys and yes men at every single level of government. But of course, the party that prides themselves on a lack of education also doesn’t have any clue about the Constitution, either. And that is absolutely not surprising in the slightest.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) predicted Sunday that the Supreme Court will send former President Trump’s immunity case back to the lower courts.

“Well, I think the court’s gonna find that presidential immunity exists for President Trump like every other president, but you got to be within the scope of being president. I think they’ll send it back to the lower courts to find out exactly what actions fall within presidential immunity and what are considered personal. I think that’s the way this will end — there will be some immunity for some of the actions,” Graham said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

The Supreme Court heard arguments last week over whether Trump could have presidential immunity from criminal prosecution in the federal Jan. 6 case brought by special counsel Jack Smith. The high court appeared open to some presidential immunity for the former president, which could potentially delay the criminal cases brought against him even further.

Graham said the question of immunity may be “decided partially” for the former president.

Holy shit. Yeah… holy shit. 1. This case is too toxic for this court to decide, and at best they’ll keep moving back the goalposts and nobody will ever decide this case. Now here’s something that nobody asked for, wanted, or even saw coming. But last week the state of New York voted to overturn the conviction surrounding embattled movie producer Harvey Weinstein, who has been doing hard time over the rape allegations that have daunted his career. And look, before we proceed – please don’t hammer us in the comments about what we’re about to report on. We side with the victims, OK? That’s the way we’ve been since this program began. We never side with the abusers on anything, no matter what the situation. Now that being said, I’m sure just about everyone had the same two questions that we did when we first saw the news. The first question is… what the actual fuck? And the second question is – why? And yes, there’s a third question – which is also – what the actual fuck? Before we go into a broken record loop, we have to dissect what the fuck is going on with New York and Harvey Weinstein.

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein will be retried in New York, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office said in court on Wednesday, a week after the state's highest court threw out his 2020 rape conviction.

Weinstein appeared in court before Judge Curtis Farber in a wheelchair and a black suit, more than four years after his conviction was hailed as a milestone for the #MeToo movement, in which women accused hundreds of men in entertainment, media, politics and other fields of sexual misconduct.
“There was nothing consensual about this conduct,” prosecutor Nicole Blumberg said. "We believe in this case and will be retrying this case."

Weinstein, 72, had been serving a 23-year sentence in a prison in upstate Rome, New York. He then was transferred to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan following last week's order, according to his spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer.

WTF is going on here, that is a good question, sir! We don’t know! Now a lot of folks are wondering if this might be the end of the Me Too movement. Well the short answer is: no. In fact there’s a new trial brewing and it could be worse than the first!

Weinstein was sitting in the courtroom as the officials from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office announced their intention to take the case back to a jury. The trial could begin as quickly as September, if room can be found on the court calendar.

“We are happy to hear that the prosecutors want a speedy trial,” Weinstein chief attorney Arthur Aidala told the court as he once again proclaimed his client’s innocence. “It’s a new trial, it’s a new day … his life is on the line.”

Charged and arrested for rape in May 2018 after revelations by the New York Times in late 2017 detailing decades of abuse and alleged assaults by Weinstein, the defendant was convicted in February 2020 on first-degree sexual assault and third-degree rape after allegations by two women, Mimi Haley and Jessica Mann.

While not handling the case directly, Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg himself was in attendance Wednesday in Judge Curtis Farber’s court, as was attorney Gloria Allred, who represents Haley and Mann.

Oooooooooh… we got Alvin Bragg on the case, everybody! Trump’s favorite punching bag! Led by of course Ashley Judd – who was one of the original pioneers of the Me Too movement. So of course, she’s got some thoughts about this whole clusterfuck. But this is just an overturning of *ONE* trial. Mr. Weinstein has trials and convictions ongoing in several states, including in my home state of California, where his conviction still stands. Yes, he may be off the hook in New York, but he’ll have a nice home here at Folsom.

The overturning of the New York conviction was criticised by complainants, lawyers and #MeToo activists as a setback for abuse survivors.

Ms Judd, the first actress to come forward with claims against Weinstein, said her day had been disrupted upon hearing that a new trial had been ordered.

The actress - who starred in films including Ruby in Paradise, Heat, and Norma Jean & Marilyn, and is part of the Silence Breakers group - added that the court's decision was a betrayal for sexual assault survivors.

"Oftentimes survivors say that the betrayal and the moral injury we suffer within the system is worse than the sexual body invasion we experienced in the first place," Ms Judd said.

Yes, why? That’s the question on the table here, ladies and gentlemen! Now you might be wondering if Mr. Weinstein will survive to his next trial. Well, he’s 72 years old and not exactly in what one would call the “best of health”. And just like the several trials that await Trump, we could be seeing the goal posts of when Mr. Weinstein will see a new conviction in the state of New York. Yeah we don’t want to shit on Harvey or his condition but given the circumstances… he’s faking it. Or is he not? Well it could be interesting to see what happens and we’ll be keeping an eye on it.

Arthur Aidala said he was moved to a Manhattan hospital on Friday. He remains in jail after being separately convicted of rape in Los Angeles.

Mr Aidala said his client was "somewhat of a train wreck health wise".

"It seems like he needs a lot of help, physically. He's got a lot of problems," he told AP.

Later, in a statement to CBS, the BBC's US partner, Mr Aidala said Mr Weinstein had been taken to hospital after the New York City Department of Correction determined that he needed "immediate medical attention".

"A myriad of tests are being performed on Harvey and he is being kept for observation," he said.

Arizona, you know them of course as the Grand Canyon State, is in a bit of trouble it seems, after not just one or two, but *ALL* of the fake electors who plotted to overturn Arizona’s vote count and hand it to Trump got busted last week! And this includes some very high profile MAGAs at that. You know that old saying – play stupid games, win stupid prizes! None are more stupid than Rudy Giuliani, yes, he was once known as America’s mayor and the unsung hero of 9/11. Now he’s known as that guy who stumps for Trump and appears on Fox News every night screaming about how nobody will hire him.. It’s like what Harvey Dent said in the Dark Knight – you either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. It seems like Guiliani is not only going down, but he’s taking a lot of Trump’s inner circle with him. Who needs some popcorn because I’ve got plenty of it!

An Arizona grand jury has indicted former President Donald Trump ‘s chief of staff Mark Meadows, lawyer Rudy Giuliani and 16 others for their roles in an attempt to overturn Trump’s loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

The indictment released Wednesday names 11 Republicans who submitted a document to Congress falsely declaring that Trump won Arizona in 2020. They include the former state party chair, a 2022 U.S. Senate candidate and two sitting state lawmakers, who are charged with nine counts each of conspiracy, fraud and forgery.

The identities of seven other defendants, including Giuliani and Meadows, were not immediately released because they had not yet been served with the documents. They were readily identifiable based on descriptions of the defendants, however.

Trump himself was not charged but was referred to as an unindicted co-conspirator.

The chief of staff for former President Donald Trump faces the same conspiracy, fraud and forgery charges as the other named defendants in Arizona’s fake elector case, the state attorney general’s office said Wednesday.

Mark Meadows wasn’t named in a grand jury indictment last week because he hadn’t been served with it, although he was readily identifiable based on descriptions in the document. He has since been served, revealing nine felony counts, Richie Taylor, a spokesman for the attorney general’s office, wrote in an email to The Associated Press.

George Terwilliger, an attorney for Meadows, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the AP. He previously referred to the Arizona indictment as a “blatantly political and politicized accusation and will be contested and defeated.”

With the indictments, Arizona becomes the fourth state where allies of the former president have been charged with using false or unproven claims about voter fraud related to the election. Joe Biden won Arizona by more than 10,000 votes.

Arizona Republicans documented via social media the process that has now resulted in felony charges against 18 people, accused of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Arizona.

The party's official Facebook page still has up the video of a slate of 11 party members signing a document that falsely certified the state's 11 electoral college votes for Donald Trump, even though Joe Biden narrowly won Arizona. Arizona prosecutors on April 24 indicted the fake electors, along with seven Trump allies.

A state senator who was charged in Arizona’s 2020 election subversion case and a former state representative who was expelled from office have been elected as Republican National committee members for the Grand Canyon State.

State Sen. Jake Hoffman and former state Rep. Liz Harris were elected to their new roles at the Arizona GOP convention over the weekend.

Hoffman was one of 11 individuals recently indicted in Arizona in the so-called fake electors scheme over their efforts to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss.

Harris was removed from the GOP-controlled state House in April 2023 for ethics violations resulting from her inviting an insurance agent, who made unsubstantiated claims against public officials, including Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs, to publicly testify before state lawmakers. Harris had also pushed the QAnon conspiracy theory and baseless theories about the 2020 and 2022 elections, according to local reports.

Well I’m sure that most people are aware by now that South Dakota governor Kristi Noem admitted to murdering her 2 year old dog after a bad hunting trip. Somewhere even Dick Cheney is going “Man, that’s some cold hearted shit there!”. America’s gun nuts really are some sick psychos, but Kristi Noem may have just taken the cake for all of them. And let’s face it – Gov. Noem is already proving the stereotype about dog movies. In the past, politicians have bragged about raising puppies as a way to seem more approachable. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, meanwhile, recently wrote about killing one.

Noem, one of the top contenders to be former President Donald Trump’s vice presidential nominee, recalled the shooting in a new book, No Going Back. In it, she says she killed Cricket, her 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, because the dog had behavioral issues and wasn’t taking to the training provided. The anecdote is included as an attempt at touting Noem’s decision-making skills, and to highlight how the governor can make “difficult, messy and ugly” choices when needed.

Instead of conveying that idea, however, Noem’s revelation has prompted a wave of backlash, angering animal rights experts and pretty much anyone who likes dogs — which is a lot of the US voting public. More than 60 million US households have at least one dog, according to the American Veterinary Medicine Association, and a 2023 study by the Pew Research Center found that 97 percent of pet owners see their companions as part of the family.

Americans’ affinity for pets — and attachment to dogs, especially — helps explain the visceral reaction Noem has faced over the news. The seriousness with which Americans approach canine welfare has helped and hurt politicians in the past. The uproar over Noem’s decision has political insiders suggesting that it could be enough to sink her chances for VP and that it will harm her political image overall.

Yeah really, that officer had the right idea. I mean what does someone attempt to gain by admitting something this horrifying? Have you seen the pet industry in America? It’s literally a trillion dollar industry. People *LOVE* their pets and some take them more seriously than they do other people, and you can see it on Instagram, Twitter, and so on. Kristi Noem got denounced by a guy who voluntarily calls himself Catturd! But that’s not the worst part of this story!

“Whether running the ranch or in politics, I have never passed on my responsibilities to anyone else to handle. Even if it’s hard and painful,” she added. “I followed the law and was being a responsible parent, dog owner, and neighbor. As I explained in the book, it wasn’t easy. But often the easy way isn’t the right way.”

The comparison between Noem putting her dog down and navigating tumultuous decisionmaking as a political leader requires some literary imagination. Being a puppy killer isn’t exactly a cause célèbre, no matter the “challenge” of it.

Democrats, meanwhile, are eating this up. A spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee wrote, from the perspective of dogs, “If you want elected officials who don’t brag about brutally killing their pets as part of their self-promotional book tour, then listen to our owners—and vote Democrat.”

Hillary Clinton also weighed in with some shade, retweeting a 2021 post that said: “Don’t vote for anyone you wouldn’t trust with your dog.”

The Guardian was the first to get its hands on Noem’s account of the dog’s demise. The ill-fated wirehaired pointer, a puppy named Cricket, was difficult to control, it wasn’t taking well to being trained as a hunting dog, and it even killed some chickens belonging to a neighbor. “I hated that dog,” Noem writes, and she concluded he had to be put down. So she took him to a gravel pit and shot him. “It was not a pleasant job,” she says, “but it had to be done.”

“I guess if I were a better politician I wouldn’t tell the story here,” she added. That turned out to be true, but perhaps not in quite the way she meant. If it was designed to produce a reaction from her political opponents, which would in turn enable a counter-reaction from her side of the aisle, Noem’s anecdote was only a partial success. Her opponents certainly reacted, with a bit of outrage and a lot of mockery. But only a few conservatives stepped up to defend her, and some even attacked her.

He’s a firearms enthusiast who has publicly suggested that Black Lives Matter protesters should be met with force by police. More recently, Higgins personally manhandled a progressive activist at a press conference.

But even Higgins knows: You don’t brag about shooting a puppy.

Yet that’s exactly what South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem did. In her new memoir, Noem recounted how she once brought a 14-month old wirehaired pointer named Cricket that she “hated” to a gravel pit on her family farm and shot her dead.

In the probe, the agency was looking at multiple cases in which Teslas on Autopilot ran into emergency vehicles parked on freeways.

The recall fix involves an online software update to increase warnings to drivers. But the agency said in documents that it has found evidence of crashes after the fix, and that Tesla tried to address problems with additional software updates after the recall fix was sent out. U.S. auto safety regulators said on Friday they have opened an investigation into whether Tesla's recall of more than 2 million vehicles announced in December to install new Autopilot safeguards is adequate following a series of crashes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said it opened the probe after receiving reports of 20 crashes involving vehicles that had the new Autopilot software updates installed under Tesla's recall.

The new investigation adds to regulatory scrutiny to Autopilot at a time when CEO Elon Musk is pushing for full self- driving, as Tesla is offering a month of free trials and plans to unveil its robotaxi on Aug. 8.
The agency said it had concerns following those 20 crashes as well as results from preliminary NHTSA tests of updated vehicles.

Also on Friday, the agency closed its nearly three-year defect investigation into Autopilot, saying it found evidence that "Tesla’s weak driver engagement system was not appropriate for Autopilot’s permissive operating capabilities" that result in a "critical safety gap."

Yeah so if you live in California or are planning to visit here, just be aware that we have more Teslas on the road than just about any other state in the US. So not only did the first attempt at a recall of this issue fail, they’re trying it again. No doubt there’s some meddling going on. But when you see the words “federal probe” in any given subject, you know that ain’t good! And this isn’t even the only recall going on with Tesla right now – their new Cybertruck got recalled because of a door issue. You know how many Cybertrucks got recalled? ALL OF THEM!!! The NHTSA said Friday that Tesla has issued software updates to address issues related to its concerns, but has not made them part of the recall. Regulators are also concerned that part of Tesla’s remedy requires the owner of the vehicle to opt-in and that it can be reversed by a driver.

The new recall investigation covers model year 2012-2024 Model Y, X, S, 3 and Cybertruck EVs in the U.S. equipped with Autopilot. Tesla last week recalled 3,878 Cybertruck electric pickups over faulty accelerators.

In December, Tesla said Autopilot’s controls “may not be sufficient to prevent driver misuse” and could increase crash risks. The company said it disagreed with the NHTSA, but will “incorporate additional controls and alerts to those already existing on affected vehicles” to encourage drivers to stay focused on the road.

In February, Consumer Reports said the recall may have made warnings and driver notifications more visible, but they actually take drivers’ attention off of the road.

While Wilson said that he does not necessarily agree with the approach advocated by some Christian nationalists like Stephen Wolfe, author of “The Case for Christian Nationalism,” who believes that Christians are to use political power to impose their views on the nation because non-Christians “are not entitled to political equality,” Wilson admitted that if Wolfe and his ilk did manage to “take over” it “would be way better than what we are dealing with now.”

Eventually, Wilson addressed just how the United States could go about officially declaring itself to be a Christian nation.

Among the options Wilson floated was having the president issue a proclamation acknowledging that “Jesus rose from the dead and Congress could authorize the funds to have that proclamation printed and bound, read in the all the schools, and posted in all the federal courthouses.”

Undaunted by her paltry showing in that election, Taylor subsequently became a Georgia GOP district chair and also began hosting a weekly program called “Jesus, Guns, and Babies” on the far-right Stew Peters Network.

Peters himself if a racist, far-right anti-LGBTQ bigot who regularly uses his own nightly program, speeches, and social media accounts to promote white nationalism and virulent antisemitism while spreading wild conspiracy theories, bigotry, and calls for violence.

Taylor has said that Peters is her “best friend,” so it was not surprising to hear her issue a threat of violence during a recent appearance on Peters’ program.

Peters has repeatedly and openly called for violence against the government and his perceived political enemies, threatening time and again to deliver “extreme accountability,” by which he means public executions.

The movement to overturn the 2020 election for Donald Trump was, as the documentary underscores, inextricable from a certain strain of belief in America as a fundamentally Christian nation, separation of church and state be damned. You know a couple of weeks ago, we talked about the epic on and off camera feud between the late, great Norm MacDonald and OJ Simpson (see: Idiots #16-9 ). Now we’re going to talk about the other side of that equation. There’s an increasing number of professional comedians who are saying that comedy is getting hard to do because they – and I’m quoting – “don’t want to offend anyone”. Look, this is a comedy show, OK? But yes we’re not in prime time (although we should be!), we’ve got that coveted Thursday at 2:00 PM slot at the Chuckle Hut! But let’s break down this talking point and extrapolate some things for a minute. So who’s getting offended, exactly? I’ll give you a hint – it’s not the “extreme left’. Seriously, the left gets blamed for fucking everything. But you know the only people who are doing the complaining about this? Right wing talk show hosts. Yeah, get your head out of the gutter and take a look around. Do you see anyone complaining, Jerry? People still give you money and go to your shows! Come on, stop letting cable news dictate your opinions, guys – just get out there and do it!

Jerry Seinfeld said in an interview with The New Yorker while touting his feature directorial effort “Unfrosted” that “P.C. crap” and the “extreme left” is making television comedy go extinct. Seinfeld is a sitcom icon thanks to his eponymous NBC sitcom that ran between 1989 and 1998, but he says viewers no longer flock to their television sets in order to get their comedy fix like they did for decades.

“Nothing really affects comedy. People always need it. They need it so badly and they don’t get it,” Seinfeld said. “It used to be, you would go home at the end of the day, most people would go, ‘Oh, “Cheers” is on. Oh, “MASH” is on. But for about a decade, Seinfeld has continuously complained that “political correctness” is stifling comedy of the kind that made him a household name and fabulously wealthy.

As long ago as 2015 — right around when our contemporary ideas of “cancel culture” were beginning to take shape on social media — Seinfeld was talking about not playing college campuses for fear of students labeling his material racist or sexist. In 2024, he’s sounding the same tune, appearing on a recent episode of the New Yorker Radio Hour to tell David Remnick that iconic sitcoms are no more because of political correctness.

A top Kremlin propagandist gushed over Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene on state TV, calling her a "beauty."

Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Russian state-controlled media organization RT, made the remarks while speaking on TV channel Russia-1 alongside host Vladimir Solovyov, one of the most prominent figures in Kremlin-backed media.

The Daily Beast's Julia Davis shared an excerpt of the broadcast on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday. Newsweek reached out to Russia's Foreign Ministry for comment via email.

Former Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) went after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) for her anti-Ukraine position in an interview on CNN Friday.

“Moscow Marjorie has reached a new low,” Buck said in an interview on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront” with anchor Erica Hill. “You know, during the Russian Revolution, [Bolshevik Revolution leader Vladimir] Lenin talked about American journalists who were writing glowing reports about Russia at the time as ‘useful idiots.’”

“And I don’t even think that Marjorie reaches that level of being a useful idiot here,” Buck continued. “She is just mouthing the Russian propaganda, and really hurting American foreign policy in the process.”

During a House Oversight Committee meeting Wednesday, Greene noted news stories and displayed photos she said showed neo-Nazis in Ukraine. She brought up her concern over how it is seen as misinformation to discuss “the Nazis in Ukraine and their recruitment efforts that go all around the world.”

It was a notable moment—and a telling one, as the House gets ready for a contentious vote on aid to Ukraine. The vote is being loudly protested by far-right politicians including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is pushing to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson from his role over the issue.

It’s not the first time Republican lawmakers have accused their colleagues of essentially being Russian pawns. Authorities in the Russian Republic of Chechnya have announced a ban on music that they consider too fast or slow.

Minister of Culture Musa Dadayev announced the decision to limit all musical, vocal and choreographic compositions to a tempo ranging from 80 to 116 beats per minute (BPM) at a meeting Friday, the Russian state news agency TASS reported.

“(I) have announced the final decision, agreed with the head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Akhmatovich Kadyrov, that from now on all musical, vocal and choreographic works must correspond to a tempo of 80 to 116 beats per minute,” Dadayev said, according to TASS.

Under Kadyrov’s directive, the region now ensures that Chechen musical and dance creations align with the “Chechen mentality and musical rhythm,” aiming to bring “to the people and to the future of our children the cultural heritage of the Chechen people,” Dadayev added.

The culture ministry of the Russian republic recently announced it is banning any songs that are too up-tempo — or down-tempo — in a bid to conform with the country’s musical traditions and root out any hint of Westernization.

“From now on all musical, vocal and choreographic works should correspond to a tempo of 80 to 116 beats per minute,” the ministry said in a statement last week, as reported by the Moscow Times.

According to Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the idea is to make music “conform to the Chechen mentality.” But letting go of upbeat bangers is a challenge for Kadyrov himself: A Telegram post Sunday from the leader features a video with — guess what — backing music just outside of this range.

The region is introducing a ban on tunes that don’t conform to the Chechen “sense of rhythm.” In a statement translated by The Guardian, Chechnya’s Culture Ministry announced last week, “From now on all musical, vocal and choreographic works should correspond to a tempo of 80 to 116 beats per minute,” effectively criminalizing anything the region considers to be too fast or too slow.

The ban requires local artists to rewrite their music to comply with the restrictions by June 1st, or else they won’t be allowed to perform publicly. “Borrowing musical culture from other peoples is inadmissible,” said Chechen Culture Minister Musa Dadayev. “We must bring to the people and to the future of our children the cultural heritage of the Chechen people.”

The new tempo limitations are, amusingly, too fast for Russia’s own national anthem (which sits at 76bpm), while still being fairly slow by popular music standards. The high bpm rave and techno bops enjoyed in Western countries are clearly out, but this ban would even prevent people from listening to fairly somber tracks like Nirvana’s 120bpm hit “Come as You Are” — if the song wasn’t already restricted in the deeply conservative Russian republic.

Ah that’s the stuff! So Chechnya’s not getting down, getting lucky, or where it’s at any time soon, not with people like Kadyrov in charge. Now in case you’re wondering, why yes, some internet sleuths did some research and they have a chart posted now that shows you the difference in BPM of some of your favorite songs. Seriously, even something that’s usually classified as “easy listening” music like the seminal Phil Collins classic “In The Air Tonight” can’t be played in Chechnya. And come on, do you really want to rewrite that classic? I can guarantee there ain’t nobody touching that one with a 100 foot pole!

Chechnya last week banned music whose pace was deemed too different from Chechen traditions and culture. Music playing at between 80 and 116 beats per minute was still admissible, the semi-autonomous republic's culture minister announced. He said that the ban was meant to curb "borrowing musical culture from other peoples". The region also mandates Islamic dress code, has restrictions on the sale of alcohol and employs aspects of Sharia law as strongman leader Ramzan Kadyrov has been leaning heavily on the local Sufi Islam as a legitimacy tool to consolidate his power - all while fiercely supporting the secular regime of Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The subversion of national law in favor of Islamic norms and even at times the departure from all lawfulness seems to have strengthened Kadyrov, who cultivates a cult of personality like the one that once surrounded his father. Analysts at The Conversation find that he is useful to Putin as a way in to the Muslim world - despite Chechnya's and Kadyrov's history of separatism, hunger for absolute power and the promotion of Islam that let their alliance appear to be an unlikely one. Kadyrov's support for Palestine has meanwhile been turned into a tale of resistance to Western imperialism, fitting Putin's narrative in Ukraine.

Under Kadyrov's rule, Chechnya has experienced a degree of re-islamization through the building of mosques and religious schools and also concerning the country's laws - including its new music ban. As noted in The Moscow Times, the bpm limit excludes many popular songs and genres, which are mostly too fast-paced. While fewer in number, certain tunes are also too slow, an analysis of bmp counts on websites Chosic and SongBPM finds.

Well, Arizona has brought out what may be the most batshit insane, immoral, unethical, and completely unconstitutional ban on abortion not seen in 100 years. Now that the dust is beginning to settle from that insane ban, we’re learning just how far the MAGA Christian right wing is willing to go in their efforts to stamp out reproductive rights, and we fear they may just be getting started!

The Arizona Senate voted Wednesday to repeal the Civil War-era ban on abortion that was recently revived by a court ruling, setting the stage for it come off the books later this year.

The repeal passed the Republican-led Senate by a vote of 16 to 14, with a couple Republicans joining Senate Democrats. (Republicans hold 16 seats in the 30-seat Senate.)

"I don't want us honoring laws about women written during a time when women were forbidden from voting because their voices were considered inferior to men," said Democratic State Sen. Eva Burch of Mesa.

The debate was occasionally interrupted by demonstrators in the gallery. Republicans said the repeal endangered children and violated Christian tenets. "Our job as people is to defend and protect the most vulnerable, to defend and protect those who can't speak for themselves," said Republican State Sen. Jake Hoffman, from a suburb of Phoenix.

They know there was no emergency clause placed in the bill the repeal the 1864 abortion ban, which means it won’t go off the books until 90 days after the Legislature adjourns.

In the meantime, the ban on abortions except to save a mother’s life, with prison time for anyone who facilitates the procedure, will be the law in Arizona.

An Arizona grand jury handed up an indictment Wednesday that accuses 18 people of crimes related to the attempt to throw the 2020 presidential election for former President Donald Trump. The list of defendants includes not only the 11 Arizonans who were appointed as “fake electors” in that state but also lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Christina Bobb, members of the Trump campaign’s inner circle.

Even though Trump isn’t directly named in the indictment, appearing only as “unindicted co-conspirator 1,” the timing couldn’t be worse for him. The Arizona charges were unsealed the day before the former president’s lawyers appeared before the Supreme Court to claim that his actions in the aftermath of the election were all official and, thus, are covered by a blanket presidential immunity. But the Arizona indictments serve as an important reminder that Trump’s actions after the 2020 election weren’t a mere byproduct of Trump’s serving as president. Instead, Trump was allegedly the head of a criminal enterprise, as the indictment in Georgia calls it, and his efforts can’t be handwaved away as just part of the job.

Gov. Jeff Landry’s effort to gain greater control over state taxes and spending by rewriting the state constitution won approval Wednesday in the first step of the legislative process.

On a party-line vote, the Republican-controlled House and Governmental Affairs Committee passed House Bill 800, which calls for convening a two-week convention next month to rewrite the constitution. HB 800 advances to the full House for consideration sometime soon.

If it receives the necessary two-thirds vote there, it would advance to the Senate, which has not shown much enthusiasm yet for the idea.

Landry is stepping up pressure on lawmakers to convene the convention, pitching it on talk radio shows on Monday and Tuesday and planning to promote it Thursday at what will be only his second press conference in Baton Rouge since he became governor in January.

But apparently one of the biggest issues facing Louisiana is… emotional support animals? Really? This is where we’re at? That might have been a thing in the past, but do you really see anyone bringing their emotional support peacocks or monkeys on planes anymore? We’re pretty sure that Jim Jeffries destroyed this argument on his old show.

Louisiana lawmakers are considering a bill that would crack down on the proliferation of dubious emotional support animal certifications, which people are misusing to get their pets aboard commercial flights or to skirt no-pet policies at apartments and hotels.

House Bill 407, sponsored by Rep. Joe Stagni, R-Kenner, cleared the Senate Health & Welfare Committee Tuesday and is pending consideration on the Senate floor.

The proposal would make it illegal for health care professionals to certify an emotional support animal for anyone who is not actually disabled. It would also make it illegal for anyone to falsely represent an animal as a service dog or service dog-in-training.

Unlike service dogs that are bred and trained to perform tasks or detect seizures for people with disabilities, critics say emotional support animals are, for the most part, just pets with no special training or skills.

Yeah so that’s what they’re focused on in the Bayou State? They’ve solved all of their other problems like crime and education? No? Guess not. Oh yeah we almost forgot – the GOP’s got a case brewing in Loooooooooosiana that could potentially dwarf the already insane abortion bans that are in place in places like Florida, Arizona, and Alabama. Repeat: the MAGAs are not stopping at abortion. They want total control over *ALL* reproductive rights, and if we don’t stop them, they’re going to get their very last evil wish.

Louisiana lawmakers are considering adding mifepristone and misoprostol — the two drugs used to induce an abortion — to the list of controlled dangerous substances in the state, creating penalties of up to 10 years of prison time for anyone caught with the drugs.

It’s the latest move by anti-abortion politicians trying to control access to abortion pills, which people are ordering online, shipping into the state and using to end their pregnancies, despite Louisiana’s near-total abortion ban.

If passed, the law could be the first of its kind. Two lawyers with expertise in abortion laws contacted by WWNO and WRKF said they were not aware of any other state that has classified abortion medications as controlled substances.
