A guy I know, lives in Madison, Wisconsin, and he saw this disgusting display by the pro-Hamas thugs.
----------------------------------------------
After first hand witnessing the Pro-HAMAS protests at the University of Wisconsin , I was not only disgusted by what the non-student antagonists were chanting followed by the sheeple numbering around a couple hundred repeating every word chanted....endlessly.
From the usual war chants, to some extreme chants of "Death to Zionists", "Bring back the Final Solution" and "Abolish Israel" And "Abolish the United States" , "Return the American stolen land back to the indigenous peoples."
Plus a few even blocked a couple Jewish students crossing the mall, telling them they were not allowed to walk in the University (of which one Jewish student recorded everything) locking arms blocking them.
Plus a few Jewish students reported being harassed with chants of 'Heil Hitler' shouted at them and "Make the swastika fashionable again!"
Theres no excuse for Antisemitism...NONE!! PERIOD!!

(18,961 posts)A person who self-identified as Jewish reported it to officers Monday afternoon.
"We take reports like that very seriously and the actions described have no place on our campus or anywhere, for that matter," UW-Madison Police spokesperson Marc Lovicott said.

(6,736 posts)Ive heard in Austin they are out causing trouble.
Or it's knee-jerk "we good, they bad--if somebody on 'our team' is bad, it's false-flag!!1!"
Oddly, when it's a RW group acting badly, it's never, but never, even possibly somebody trying to frame them.
As I've said numerous times on this site, I'm not Jewish (but have had a lot of Jewish roommates and friends--many of which I didn't know for months were Jewish--and even with my now ex-wife attended a messianic synagogue at her behest). But I've been insulted, threatened, and shunned because MSA members noticed I didn't eat pork, wasn't meat-avoiding, and wasn't Muslim. Ergo, I was a Jew. Or a "f**king Jew," a "dirty Jew," or various other terms. Esp. when I said I wasn't Jewish (hey, I'm mostly Irish-American, with a bit of English- and Scottish-American; and Xian, albeit bear habits from a moderately strange form sometimes termed a "cult"--but still, not Jewish by religion).
The MSA was part of the progressive coalition at my college. In league with the greens, the gay student union ... Mostly out of negative solidarity. No, that's not right. The MSA was clear how they regarded their "allies" but only among outsiders. The greens and gay student alliance and other such groups considered them oppressed, therefore natural allies against the dominant foe that must be fought.
So its not that students are antisemitic and pro Hamas, its that they are gullible and stupid and blindly follow people who are antisemitic and pro Hamas and then choose to become antisemitic and pro Hamas?
Tell me again why this is supposed to absolve them?

(51,437 posts)Based on Wikipedia there are about 15.7 million in the world out of 8 billion population. Or .2% of the population. That is way less than 1 percent.
The USA has about 51%. Which would be about 8 million in the USA. Out of over 330 million. That is less than 2.5% of the USA population. They are extremely outnumbered yet people are afraid of them? And attack them.
Additional data. It appears the number of Jews in the USA is closer to 6.5 million.

(46,381 posts)Anti-Jewish sentiment really took off once the "christians" came to power, and they needed scapegoats.
Jews have pretty much rejected the Christian "Jesus" as their "Lord and Saviour," so the hatred continues.

And they don't have to worry about me either. As only sinners can go to heaven.

(35,402 posts)Romans and the populations often resented the Judeans for the deal they cut with the Empire--a measure of religious autonomy.
That continued in Imperial Rome.
The Catholic Church inherited this. Even a few centuries into Xianity the Quartodeciman Controversy was a problem. Many eastern Xians kept passover. But the Roman Church couldn't abide it. "Following the Christ" meant abjuring his Jewishness.
The Quartodecimans lost. The Roman church even declared Saturday a fast day, to make sure that it was day of "I don't like this," to promote worship on the day of the Sun because of the Tomb's being empty Sunday pre-sunrise.
Xian anti-Semitism was inherited and spread by post-pagan anti-Semites writ normative.
22% of all Nobel laureates are Jewish. Jews punch above their weight in virtually every field. Im not a Jew but respect is well deserved.

(33,075 posts)Maybe on a sign, but not a chant
I listened to the "occupation" a number of years ago in NYC and thought, "What the hell? Somebody with a megaphone says what others magnify, and they mindlessly repeat what they're told to say?" It's rather like, "Here's what to think and say, turn off your bright--you're smarter than thinking--and repeat after me. Blah-Blah... Blah-Blah."
I was seriously waiting for them to be programmed, line by line, to sing-song along, "Ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong ... Ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong... Chang chang, changity chang shoo bop ... Dip da dip da dip do wop di dooby do ... A-boogy boogy boogy boogy shooby do wop she bop ... Chang chang, changity chang shoo bop ... We'll always be like one .. Wa-wa-wa the one!"
But what they chanted in their responsories wasn't nearly that original or entertaining or meaningful. Except to the pious zealots.

(12,691 posts)Too much hand wringing. Appeasement NEVER works. They were told not to get out of hand.
At UGA, they shut the nonsense down in about 6 hours & so far it hasnt come back.
these outsiders are obviously funded by SOMEONE. Find out WHO & hit them with a racketeering charge. Encouraging lawbreaking over state lines. That should work. They need to go to jail longer than 12hrs.

(111,510 posts)`I can think of a lot of cringe worthy stuff from the 60s and 70s, especially some of the shit the more empty headed ones screamed at anyone in a military uniform. Jerks gonna jerk.
I think I'd rather see them making arses of themselves screaming about stuff they have little clue about than being obsessed with profit an loss and climbing a corporate ladder.
I'm just not listening to a word they say. Eventually, when they're alone with the memory of the stupid things they said, they might have grown into the good sense to find most of it reprehensible and they'll hope they never run into anyone who shouted the same nonsense and if they do, that person has the tact not to remember them.

(111,510 posts)When the cops arrived with hard hats and clubs, most people just left. Only the hardest core with the loudest mouths were dumb enough to say "make me" when the cops told them it was time to leave instead of leaving.
They were the kids who didn't realize they'd already made their point and that getting thumped by the cops didn't add to it. Occupying the dean's office wasn't much of a hill to die on.

(5,212 posts)The Kochs have a headquarters there, the John Birch Society was started there, McCarthy represented there, and the list goes on and on.
This is being co-opted for the Right to blame the left or get the left fighting eachother. They did the same during the BLM protests, when it was right-wing agitators burning, breaking, and stealing.
Not all, but be careful with blame. I would like to see these Palestinian protestors students stand in and protect the Jewish group when their being attacked on campus. Then we'll see who's really behind this fighting.

(5,212 posts)I lived in Lake Geneva, WI for a decade. I loved Madison. I just meant there are agitators galore in the state trying to blame the Dems, Libs, or anyone not Reich-wing.
I had to contend with a lot of racism there, and altimately the reason for leaving. I watched these operatives peddle their garbage, and Scott Walker even mentioned on a fake Koch call that they were talking about shooting protestors. They are full of dirty tricks to gain power.

(24,781 posts)Alt-right anti-Semites have been infiltrating the pro-Palestinian protests the same way they infiltrated the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020. Same tactics: pretend to march for the same cause as the left wing protesters while at the same time attack only Jews (or black folks 4 years ago). I see right through the neo-Nazi ruse.
Yet faculty who have been there for years support this, or look the other way.
To think what you want on this but this has been an issue on campuses for a long time
