(51,695 posts)"A Lincoln Acres Elementary School teacher was ordered Tuesday to stand trial on 18 felony sex crime charges for alleged sexual misconduct involving two minors.
Jacqueline Ma, 34, who was named one of San Diego County's 2022 "teachers of the year," is accused of grooming two boys and entering into a sexual relationship with one of the boys beginning when he was 12 years old.
Among the charges Ma faces are felony counts of lewd acts on a child, contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense, and possession of child pornography.
She faces up to 165 years to life in state prison if convicted of all charges."

Teacher of the Year
(65 posts)we were honored at the White House and got a portrait taken with President Obama. The day before the 2nd Lady (Dr Biden) hosted us at her home for lunch.
During the Trump years, I was told Trump sat at his desk and mostly talked to the teachers from states he won. I was told he said to at least one teacher, 'I won your state by ---(six?) points." (sorry--I don't remember the actual number I was told).
it really warmed my heart to see this video and see the teachers being honored again. These are the country's hardest working teachers and many of them work extra hours as coaches and tutors. I was a basement room, special education teacher making so little I couldn't afford full student loan payments and suddenly I was having lunch at the Vice Presidential Manor and standing next to President Obama. So to be picked out of your penny-pinching classroom and your part-time job to an event like this is.... mind blowing and the most incredible experience. I just grinned watching these teachers and knowing how every one of them is sitting there thinking, 'I can't believe this is happening....'

(21,769 posts)What an anecdote - and no doubt, what memories.
One of the most heinous things to come out of the modern GOP, I've long thought, is this longstanding effort of theirs to cast suspicion on teachers and academics as "leftists out to indoctrinate our precious children."
(children which, of course, they couldn't care less about anyway)
And they've influenced right-wing parties in other countries to follow the same tack - with disastrous results in some cases.
Ugly times, these.
Thanks again, and All the Best.
