Pet peeve #5248.5

Just today I saw someone indulging in one of my pet peeves. At Costco, someone was waiting for someone else to pull out of a parking space. No problem so far; most of us have done that.

But he or she had stopped in the middle of the driveway, meaning no one could pass them. Maybe I'm just too freakin' nice, but I always pull over so someone can pass me.

Is it just lack of knowing where you are, or is it something else?

and the ones who intentionally straddle the
white lines thereby taking up 2 parking spaces.

You're in the right.

So many people lack situational awareness. They give no thought to the possibility they're in someone's way. I'm going to guess the person blocking you wasn't doing it intentionally. They just had no clue they were being a dumbass. Still, very frustrating for you.

The worst driver in my book is the driver who camps out in the left lane on an interstate highway and forcing everyone to pass them on their right. The left lane is for passing only! Some incorrectly believe that as long as they are driving the speed limit, staying in the left lane is copacetic. Thankfully, here in Arkansas, state troopers have been enforcing left lane driving. There are signs on the interstate every few miles warning drivers.

And don't get me started on drivers who use interstate on-ramps timidly and merge into traffic at a speed slower than the traffic! AAAAARGH! Lol

Yeah, slot squatting is rude, but people are going to do it anyway. Your options are to back out if you can, or resign yourself to waiting if you can't. I mean, what else can you do? Go full metal Karen on them?

If they have a vehicle with a long wheelbase and squat in the middle of the lane, it's often because the driver finds it easier to make the tight turn into the parking space from there. They do the same thing with right turns as well, budging up to the road stripe on the left to make a right hand turn. If they don't do that, then they will often hit the curb or even jump it when they try to turn.

After an idiot slammed into my beloved Avalon many moons ago, the insurer provided me with one of those monster Lincoln Town Cars while my car was in the shop. I was doing all those annoying things--making the swing left to turn right, and approaching parking spaces from the middle of the aisle, because that boat didn't turn on a dime.

but when it's a small one... pet peeve.

BTW, I didn't know the term "slot squatting." Thanks!
