Pro-Palestinian protesters at UCLA refuse orders to disperse

Last edited Thu May 2, 2024, 01:26 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: KTLA.com

At around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sky5 captured at least two dozen patrol vehicles parked on campus grounds very near the encampment. The footage also showed hundreds of demonstrators locking arms in front of the path leading to the encampment.

Demonstrators were also seen reinforcing barricades, as law enforcement surrounded the encampment.

Hours later, at around 9 p.m., hundreds of demonstrators were still occupying the encampment with police on the outskirts despite the orders to disperse issued earlier in the afternoon.

This is a developing story. Stay with KTLA for additional updates.

Update: The police moved in overnight, hundreds were arrested, relatively without incident. What us left now is a trashed Royce Hall, and a trashed Powell Library which is across the quad from Royce Hall. It's midterms at UCLA right now, and normally Powell Library would be packed, but it is unusable right now. UCLA has announced classes will be online the rest of the week.

does sending in the riot police:

a) Reduce violence?
b) Escalate violence?

2. The counterprotesters from last night are gone. There appears to be just the pro-Palestinian group on campus.

And a LOT of police.

I've been monitoring the UCLA reddit page. Hammering can be heard as protestors fortify the encampment with a wall of plywood boards. There is a van blasting out a speech on a megaphone urging the pro-Palestinian protesters to occupy buildings on campus.
One reddit user posted this link since it shows the van: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6dBXxwLnhZ/?igsh=MWQ1ZGUxMzBkMA%3D%3D

The protesters are obviously digging in and showing no signs of dispersing.

7. Yes, what these idiots did to Royce Hall is sickening.

We had many protests when I was a student at UCLA. Nobody defaced Royce Hall.

Those are 100 year old bricks. It will be really hard to remove that graffiti without causing gamage.

It's standard on all new projects I do up to 15' above grade.

I have come to believe that Spray Paint should be a controlled substance like Psuedoephedrine.

14. Sadly, I don't think Royce Hall is coated in graffiti block. It was completed in 1929.

Nobody, in all the decades of protests at UCLA, had thought to trash Royce Hall and Powell Library...until now.

UCLA Facilities may have been proactive about protecting existing masonry facades.

We need to make sure that good people at these demonstrations are not all mislabeled as pro-Palestinian evildoers. Evildoers need to be accurately identified and what their intent is.

Most of the people in this country are very ill informed and most are not well educated enough as how to read let alone critically think so that they can make better decisions.

In plain English, two things, you cannot make life-changing choices with bullshit information and a dim understand of what the real world is really all about.

On one side, the protesters who will vote for Biden, but if they don't get what they want, they will take their vote to a spoiler like Stein or RFK Jr.

On the other, there are people which many will vote Biden. But if nothing is done about protesters, they will go as far as to take their vote to Trump.

This election is just too important. These protesters hate Trump. But if they don't refocus what really matters soon, Trump will win.

The protestors in the unlawful encampment have been warned repeatedly to disperse. It's on them now.
