KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker railed against Pride month, working women, President Bidens leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and abortion during a commencement address at Benedictine College last weekend.
The three-time Super Bowl champion delivered the roughly 20-minute address Saturday at the Catholic private liberal arts school in Atchison, Kansas, which is located about 60 miles north of Kansas City.
Butker, who has made his conservative Catholic beliefs well known, began his address by attacking what he called dangerous gender ideologies in an apparent reference to Pride month, which has been celebrated in June since the Stonewall riots in 1969. He also criticized an article by The Associated Press highlighting a shift toward conservativism in some parts of the Catholic Church.
The 28-year-old Butker then took aim at Bidens policies, including his response to COVID-19, which has killed nearly 1.2 million people in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention..............
..........
While COVID might have played a large role throughout your formative years, it is not unique, he said. The bad policies and poor leadership have negatively impacted major life issues. Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for the degenerate cultural values and media all stem from pervasiveness of disorder.

Wow, this story just came out of nowhere.

(101,502 posts)I can see that, as Catholics, they may think his views on gender and Pride are acceptable, but what kind of speech is this to give to the women who were graduating? "All your years of hard work don't mean shit, you should be pregnant and back in the house".
He's the one with "degenerate cultural values".

He does not understand the complexities of healthcare and so would be incompetent
Or
He understands the complexities and is a sociopath and does not care how many lives he destroys.

(1,096 posts)You should watch his speech. It's pretty clear what he thinks people should do. He clearly stated he thinks women have been "lied to" and that they should stay home and raise kids instead of having careers. That's not up for debate.
He also thinks that people like me (LGBT) do not deserve to celebrate Pride month, that we are the "deadliest sin".
What message did that send? That the kids in the audience should shun and possibly harm people like me? That is unacceptable. We face enough BS already.

(6,648 posts)Another example of talent not matching up with brain power. I just never wanted to know this about him. Well, now we're going to get to see how the team reacts and seeks to distance themselves from him. My guess is he's not going to be on the team for long.
This last Super Bowl, he played exceptionally well and really was responsible for at least one of the wins on the way to the big game. He really is a good kicker. Someone else will surely have him. But, he's now tainting the entire team with these idiotic ideas. I wonder why people shoot themselves in the foot (see what I did there?) by thinking that anyone else wants to hear their dreams to subjugate women back to the 1800s or further. I am so disappointed. Eyes on the next man up.
Please, if Mahomes is this way, I just don't want to find out until after the November election.

(2,845 posts)Generally not out of line with Catholic doctrine at an all-women Catholic university? Has there been a post-commencement outrage amongst the women present? I listened to most of the address, and I didn't hear any boos or heckling.
Is he not allowed his beliefs and to express them, particularly when he was invited to? Is the university not permitted to invite who it wishes to give its commencement address? I don't agree with everything he said, but I really don't get the pearl-clutching and screaming by everyone else who aren't those women.
(And I'll admit that I got a little choked up when he choked up about giving the girl he met in middle school, later to be his wife, all the credit for him being where he is. That was sweet.)

Good boy!
But why does he think that makes him an expert on other topics, and why people should want to hear what his opinions are?

(51,921 posts)He was blaming Biden for Covid.
He made the following false statement...
Congress just passed a bill where stating something as basic as the biblical teaching of who killed Jesus could land you in jail.
If that were true it would be by a Congress that has a Republican House.
He says his Catholic faith has always been countercultural. What?
He refers to diversity, equity, and inclusion a tyranny. Seems he is a racist.
He criticizes the Catholic Church a lot.

(3,253 posts)Its not something Id want to hear at graduation, but he loves his family and wants everyone to experience what he thinks everyone needs. It was stupid, corny, at best. But I can sort of understand that, as long as encouraging pursuing a career.
The other stuff is reason enough to bash the MFer. I consider Butker about like Kyle Rittenhouse, a punchable pissant.
