I have a really nice pair of brown, herringbone jeans that have been my favorites for a while. They're tough-looking and masculine, but pair well with a sport coat or blazer, too. My COVID-19 weight gain caused them to be a little sausage-y. But now they're fitting nicely again. Mrs. Aristus confirms that they fit very well in the right places.
Good incentive for keeping up the cardio and weight-lifting.

Someone once told me: "If you can't be good-looking, be well-dressed".
I think it was my mother...

It's much harder to remove than it was to put it on.

(1,575 posts)Even a modest workout routine does wonders.
Im 80, ride my old beat-up bike 5-8 miles, 4-5 days a week, spend 45 minutes every other day pumping iron with a set of kettlebells in a spare bedroom. Still, no matter how much I work at it, my six-pack abs are more like a keg!!!!

(28,827 posts)I knew i was making progress when my jeans started falling off my ass, but the real tell was at my last checkup, they used the blue cuff instead of the red one to do my BP. That hadn't happened in years.
I could still stand to lose a ton of weight but Ozempic has really had results for me. My BP is controlled, diabetes under control, etc

(22,926 posts)It's so nice to know that some haven't abandoned the desire to look and feel good in public.
It's so disheartening to me that so many people couldn't care less about how they dress and present themselves as they mingle with their fellow humans.
It seems like an overall rejection of civilization to me. I think it's somewhat disrespectful to the rest of society, too. It's certainly self denigrating.
I remember how much pride and happiness my mother enjoyed by dressing up my sister, me, Daddy and herself. Clothes were so important to her.
She worked so hard to encouraged us to be respectfully presentable as public representatives of our family and she was a role model for us and many other in this regard.
She grew up extremely poor. So did Daddy. She wore dresses made from feedsacks to school that were made by her aunt. She had only one pair of shoes as a child and those were for church and school. She told me a story about when her Daddy bought and gifted her a pair of socks for the first time in her life. She hand washed them at night to wear them the next day of school.
In all of the candid photos I've seen of her as a girl she's wearing a pair of overalls with the pant legs rolled up, barefoot with her hair in a thick, long braid.
I'm quite sure the overalls were hand-me-downs from her older brother. Which he also wore as hand-me-downs from his older brother.
So many people today have no idea what other people would love to have and wear but aren't able. It makes me sad. Plus, I just miss her so much.
Maybe you can get Mrs. A to take a photo and even if you don't share it anywhere, you can keep it as a reminder of your dignity and your healthy personal accomplishment. Self respect is a valuable trait.
Thank you for being a role model for us all, in many wonderful ways, sir. ❤️

(17,245 posts)I don't fit into any of my jeans, because I've lost 50 pounds in 3 years and at least 20 since my last medical exam. Which was about 18 months ago, because I didn't get a PCP in Pittsburgh until last week.
How'd I do it? Well, frankly because I'm starving myself to death. It's not a recommended procedure. But a) I can't afford food, and b) I'm not as hungry as I used to be. Was a time I could eat a whole pizza by myself, now two slices and I'm full. Which at least has the consequence of making the average pizza last for four meals.
Which probably explains why it looks like I have an iron deficiency, if my tests are anything to go by. Seeing that, I decided to get some almonds to snack on because they're good for iron. Now I have diarrhoea. So it goes. And goes. And goes.
