Any writers out there?

I've had some really good discussions with authors on DU. I was wondering what you like to write? I'm currently publishing a science fiction book while writing the sequel. I also have been known to write short stories and poetry. How about you?

based on our high school trip to France. Gonna be hard to publish, it feels YA but it's a little on the sexier side.

Where are you publishing?

I tried to find an agent for several months but it really seems like they aren't interested in authors who don't already have a following or online platform. So now I'm self publishing. Authors are expected to advertise their own work. I'm still looking into how I want to go about that.

After 9/11 the philanthropic sources that supported the publishing industry pretty much dried up, which is why/when self-publishing began to take hold. When you understand how much time/effort and your own $$ goes into publishing with publishing houses, you will understand that self-publishing is now the only way to get published unless you are a celebrity, politician, etc.
I have self-published two books, both with different self publishing companies. But, I, too will be doing more self-publishing research for my third book.

What are your books about? Edit, oh sorry I just saw your second post.

I've been doing a lot of research on self publishing and it takes a ton of money that I'm not expecting to make back anytime soon. Publishing a book is really a labor of love.

open to what we have. Most will insist we cut out the sex and make it 12-18 YA, which I don't wish to do.

a thriller. I've also written a few screenplays for my design students, so they would have something interesting to research and design, and I've done several "how-to" articles for entertainment industry publications.

Good luck with those. I'm finding publishing to be pretty overwhelming right now. I'm at the stage where I'm looking for a cover artist for my book.

I am just finishing writing a non-fiction book about the exercise of discretionary investment authority by financial advisors, and how the SEC and FINRA cloak a financial advisor from disciplinary or prosecutorial action in reliance of DIA, even when the financial advisor has stolen a client's investment portfolio.
For instance, while some know that an investor has a vested right to 100% ownership of the monies in their investment portfolio, few know that the DIA gives the financial advisor 100% control of the monies in a client's investment portfolio -- and that the financial advisor can exercise that DIA control without the knowledge, consent, or approval of the client.
Not every financial advisor will exercise their DIA to include theft, but every financial advisor has the authority to do so.
Virtually all contracts between the client and the financial advisor contains boiler plate language empowering the financial advisor with DIA, allowing the financial advisor to treat the money in their client's investment portfolio as if it was their personal piggy bank.
It will be published before the election.

11. I write short stories, badly but the ideas seem pretty good to the people that read them.

I started writing a book about the 2nd American civil war in about 2018, but soon enough the things I was writing became a bit too,,,, possible. Usually sci-fi or historical fiction, but sometimes just odd ideas I had. One I wrote was about Humanity meeting sentient aliens for the first time and "It was the most underwhelming first contact with intelligent life that anyone could imagine".

I've heard of someone who wrote a book about a pandemic and it didn't sell until covid became a thing.
