If it is a number frequently associated with scammers, it will likely show some evidence. If it is a number associated with a current or former landline, that will probably come up. The latter might be valid calls.

If they don't leave a voice mail, I usually don't delete the number but I ignore it. If they call again, then it MIGHT be a "real" caller and I generally will go to SKYPE and call (I do not have an assigned number on SKYPE so they can't call me back). If the number does not answer and a recording that the number is not recognized, it is definitely suspect as a scam call. If it does answer, you can quickly decide to answer or not or go back to your cell.

Sigh. This is increasingly making cell phones irrelevant.

If a name doesn't come up in the first few returns, I figure it is a junk call. Once in a great while, it is actually a number for my health ins.
