Spicy Tangy Pineapple Plum Sauce Recipe (video)

This is a recipe to replace those little plastic packets of overly sweet plum sauce you get with Chinese takeout. We always have frozen fruit on hand, because we love to freeze fresh fruit in season all summer so that we can have access to it all winter. In this case we took some of our frozen local plums and apricots and mixed them with a bit of crushed pineapple (but that came from a can). It's a super simple recipe that thickens very well on its own, but if you want it a little thicker, you can add a little slurry of cornstarch and water.

You can control the heat in this recipe with less or more chili flakes, of course. The real amazing flavour in this recipe comes from the balance between the sweet and slightly tart fruit, and the zing of the apple cider vinegar. A little hint of heat up front from the chili flakes just ties everything together nicely.
