Axelrod: Biden 'pride' may cost him election

The Hill

Senior Democratic strategist David Axelrod hit President Biden over his economic messaging Wednesday following a campaign event in Milwaukee, saying the president’s “pride” could be his undoing in November.

Biden has consistently framed struggles with the economy in the past tense, and treated the issue as already won. Most Americans disagree, with polls showing most trusting former President Trump on the economy more.

Axelrod, who was former President Obama’s campaign strategist, said it’s “absolutely true” that the economy has significantly improved under Biden.

“But that’s not the way people are experiencing the economy,” he said in a CNN appearance. “They are experiencing it through the lens of the cost of living. He is a man who’s built his career on empathy, why not lead with the empathy?”

“I think he’s making a terrible mistake,” he continued. “If he doesn’t win this race, it may not be Donald Trump that beats him, it may be his own pride.”

I tend to agree with Axelrod's assessment of the current condition. You can't tell voters they're wrong in how they feel. You have to first acknowledge voter concerns and THEN discuss everything you've done to address them and THEN talk about what you'll do in addition.

TikTok to label AI-generated content

Source: The Hill

TikTok will start labeling artificial intelligence-generated content uploaded from other platforms as part of a push to tackle misinformation, the company said Thursday.

TikTok is partnering with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), a project that supplies resources necessary to identify AI-generated content.

In the announcement, TikTok said it will use C2PA’s “Content Credentials” technology, which attaches metadata to content that indicates to users it is AI-generated. The feature is available for both images and videos starting Thursday but will be coming “soon” for audio-only content, according to TikTok.

The decision is part of a broader effort by technology platforms to increase transparency of AI usage on their platforms. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, said in February it will start labeling more AI-generated content and remove some that violate its policies.

Democratic Sen. Jon Tester to back GOP-championed Laken Riley Act

Source: ABC News

On Thursday afternoon, Tester will announce his intention to co-sponsor the Laken Riley Act, a bill named after a 22-year-old nursing student who was killed while out on a run near the University of Georgia campus in February. Authorities say her alleged perpetrator is an undocumented migrant who was previously arrested for a non-violent crime but released by the New York Police Department.

The Laken Riley Act would require federal officials to apprehend and detain undocumented immigrants who commit crimes such as burglary, shoplifting or larceny until these individuals are removed from the United States.

...snip...

Tester will become the first Senate Democratic co-sponsor of the legislation, joining a slate of GOP co-sponsors. The move comes as the Montana Democrat, who faces a tough reelection this November, looks to further establish himself as a border security hard-liner.

"Keeping Montana safe is my top priority, which is why I've repeatedly called on the Biden Administration and Congress to do more to secure the southern border and have worked to get the brave men and women in law enforcement what they need to keep criminals off our streets," Tester said in a statement. "After hearing from law enforcement officers across Montana, I'm backing the Laken Riley Act to make sure that individuals who enter our country and commit a crime are held accountable so that no Montana family has to worry about the safety of their loved ones."

My wife (a Lawyer) is not thrilled with Stormy Daniels' testimony...

Her adding unnecessary detail to the sexual activity testimony may offer Trump an appeal on the grounds of tainting the Jury. Reminder that rape/sexual assault, etc. are not charges in this case. All she needed to do is testify that they had sex which Trump needed to cover up.

Republican candidate Jennifer Pace (IN-7) refuses to debate....

….because she’s dead.

Republicans nominate dead woman for Indianapolis House seat

On Tuesday, Republicans in Indiana nominated a woman who has been dead for two months to take on incumbent Democratic Rep. André Carson.

Public relations specialist Jennifer Pace won a crowded primary in the state's 7th congressional district with more than 31% of the vote, according to Decision Desk HQ. But according to several reports, Pace — who also ran for the seat in 2022 — died of a heart attack in early March.

According to a Ballotpedia candidate survey, Pace's platform included limiting government interference, parental rights, and addressing inflation.

"My parents instilled that limiting government overreach has always been the Republican way to protect individual freedom, rights and equality of which I'm committed to doing," Pace wrote in the survey.

FTX Customers Poised to Recover All Funds Lost in Collapse

Source: New York Times

Customers of the failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX are poised to recover all of the money they lost when the firm collapsed in 2022 and receive interest on top of it, the company’s bankruptcy lawyers said on Tuesday.

The announcement was a landmark in the attempt to recover the $8 billion in customer assets that disappeared when FTX imploded virtually overnight, setting off a crisis in the crypto industry. Under a plan filed in federal bankruptcy court in Delaware, virtually all FTX’s creditors, including hundreds of thousands of ordinary investors who used the exchange to buy and sell cryptocurrencies, would receive cash payments equivalent to 118 percent of the assets they had stored on FTX, the lawyers said.

Those payments would flow from a pool of assets that FTX’s lawyers have pulled together in the 17 months since the exchange collapsed, the lawyers said.

But the recoveries come with a caveat. The amount owed to customers was calculated based on the value of their holdings at the time of FTX’s bankruptcy in November 2022. That means customers won’t reap the benefits of a recent surge in the crypto market that sent the price of Bitcoin to a record high. A customer who lost one Bitcoin when FTX imploded, for example, would be entitled to less than $20,000, even though a Bitcoin is now worth more than $60,000.

Judge denies mistrial request after Stormy Daniels details alleged sex with Trump

Source: Washington Post

Adult-film actress Stormy Daniels is being cross-examined by Donald Trump’s lawyer after giving explicit testimony about an alleged sexual encounter with him in a Lake Tahoe hotel room in 2006. Trump, who denies the incident took place, is charged with mislabeling business records to hide a hush money payment made to Daniels so she would not publicly share her allegations before the 2016 election.

Over objections from defense lawyers, Daniels testified about meeting Trump during a golf tournament and having sex with him, even though she did not want to. Trump’s attorneys called for a mistrial, saying Daniels’s testimony was filled with details that would prejudice the jury against the former president. New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan declined the request.
